Personal relationships arent akin to places of labour, worship or recreation etc, where the consideration & inclusion of suitable public members should be encouraged, let alone tolerated & diversity valued. The difference between PUBLIC p.l.a.c.e.s tolerating & accomodating diversity & the PRIVATE s.p.a.c.e.s generated by individuals for the purpose of personal relationships, are individual rights. Individuals existing & diversity existing is a reality exclusive of any action or perception individuals or groups can take, such as intolerance, or personal relationships. Due to certain groups violating reality & exercising violence against populations, the advocacy of tolerance has been necessary to counterbalance various systemic persecutions (such as segregation of coloured people during wars & after the abolishment of the atlantic slave trade). Personal relationships on the other hand are just that - personal: deeply private dynamics tailored to the parties involved, including discretion (which as the word denotes - is a right). Conflating the 2 (public tolerance & personal tolerance is fallicious). No one is entitled to personal relationships: why? Because individuals arent responsible for meeting the personal needs of an individual. PLACES & the spaces produced arent built for the purpose of an individual or an individuals' need - theyre spaces for the need of a group or population; just as inversely, individual spaces for individuals such as personal relationships arent public domain. Not being considered for a personal relationship is not akin to persecution (to which the antithesis - tolerance is heralded). I think it's strange to perceive personal access to another as an entitlement, in so far as to feel a personal withdraw or discount when others' aren't willing to consider you. I think it's odd to perceive something so personal to them as being personal to you. Perhaps, the misunderstanding is not of theirs in the practice of tolerance & the value of diversity, but of you & what personal means.
