It's wild to me how often men are called or call themselves "oblivious", "dumb", "smooth brained", "autistic" or similar things when they didn't notice a woman "dropping hints". Uhh, nope. Most of us just have been conditioned for several decades that we should leave women alone when in doubt and to stop mixing up flirting with being nice. Of course no one tells you how exactly to distinguish those and women have wildly different ways to express both, so the end result is that we err on the side of caution and just never assume flirting. So, guys, don't put all the responsibility on yourselves. Communication is a two-way street.
