Does asking what is your work profession really triggering y'all? I'm asking several men whose DM'ed me even though he's the one who made the 1st move, I got unmatched right away when this question came up! I think those guys are helping you dodge a bullet. If they are squirrelly about that something is shady. Even if you have a low end job at least they are working and they should be proud to be a productive member of society! (As opposed to people who can work but won't.)

Mine is on my profile I don't really think it defines me that much and I am actually changing jobs soon. I definitely don't get even a little offended by the question. In the US it is considered a bit rude to ask people how much they make however. (edited)

Maybe these people dont love what they do and would prefer to be known by who they are, and what the love doing rather than what they do for money... Starting off by asking someone what they do for a living can be percived as you trying to assess their status. I have to say, it would not be my favourite way to start a conversation! And you will also notice how it is more comon for women to ask that of men than men asking that of women.
