Thoughts on the current state of games?
Ok, is it just me. Or does the majority of newer games seem to not be as good as previous generations? Feels like the passion is fleeting, and more and more triple-A titles push a more multiplayer cash grab experience....

It's not you! All the big AAA companies are focused on how to get payers to pay more money. They don't care if games are good or entertaining. They want games to be addictive and lucrative (loot boxes, in-game gambling games, pay-to-win, etc.). It's like how if you go to a casino, the "games" are boring and quickly over. Casinos don't want you just playing a game and enjoying yourself. They want you to be handing over money constantly and feel like you can't stop.

I mostly got away from gaming because I didn't like the direction the industry has taken. Games used to have great plots/stories, memorable characters we cared about and came to love over the course of our adventures with them, those epic moments in games (even the mediocre games all had something cool that we remember). Even the world's we ventured through, were mostly magical and captivating in some way. Nowadays, though...it's become a cash grab. The developers got lazy and lost the passion and zeal they had, in the early days. Memorable stories and character development is thrown away in favor of tacking on an average multiplayer mode (as it seems mandatory nowadays), and hiding basic things go behind a season pass or pay wall. Single player games are just 6-hour long tutorials really, to prep you for the multiplayer mode nobody asked for. Honestly, I went from hard-core gamer to casual.

They are no longer made for the fans, trends, sponsors and investors are more important. Rushed development, delayed promises, forced inclusion and social critique, gacha, microotransactions and pay2win kill the games. Also a lot of people would just gave away their money for the same game with a new title.
