I can't seem to find girls with a passion for Linux, systems, hardware or computer science in general.. I wonder why... A girl I could discuss the latest kernel features, about pipewire, wayland, or share nerdy memes.... Seems like an impossible task. What keeps girls from enjoying these topics? Women tend to be interested in social relations and homemaking; men tend to be interested in accomplishment and systems. Linux is solidly in the "systems" category, making it niche for women. On the flip-side, things like interior design, fashion, baking, etc tend to be more niche for men. Note that I put "tend" for both, because these are obviously not hard-and-fast laws of the universe. And indeed, I actually personally know several women who use Linux. They're indeed rare, and they're usually pretty quiet about it, because lonely male Linux users are very quick to pursue them when they find out. Estrogens and Androgens just simply prime your brain for different sets of interests, and that's okay! At the end of the day, we end-up complimenting our partners this way. She may not know Linux very well, but you probably don't know baking very well. As a simple example: You can take care of her computer while she makes homemade bread. Both of you are doing things you enjoy, and are helping the other out in the process. (edited)

I wasn't allowed to study I.T. at school and haven't had the opportunity or time/interest since leaving to really study any kind of system other than Windows which is the most common and easily accessible. I do sometimes wonder if the autism side of me since being told no has made me feel like I couldn't study it outside of the school environment, 😅😅😅 For me though it was lack of opportunity, and encouragement that's prevented me from studying it

I have finally found a use for my old macbook pro 2012 which doesn't support anything useful anymore. So now it's running Zorin a linux OS. So goodbye useless Mac OS and Hello Linux Zorin OS. Did I make the right choice by doing this ??
