The modern advocates of Socialism (at least in the West) are predominantly of a vareity known as "Democratic Socialists." While Socialism itself can take many forms (see, for example, Ludwig von Mises' book "Socialism" where he analyzes a wide variety of such systems), Democratic Socialism is the kind of Socilalism most commonly demanded in the West today. Perhaps the demand for "Democratic Socialism" is an attempt to have Socialism while ignoring its vast track record of failures and devestations. The history of Socialism is bloody, brutish, and violent. Anyone who claims to want that kind of Socialism can only desire it by living deliberately out of touch with reality. These are the advocates who cry, "It wasn't real Socialism" and "You have been deceived into thinking that Socialism doesn't work because of Western propaganda and indoctrination." But, when we examine the evidence honestly and contientiously, it is quite revealing that--rather than overestimating the evil brutality of Socialism in world history--the opposite is true: that Socialism's evils have been muted, obscured, and understated. (Ask anyone living in a Socialist country today how they feel about it.) Democratic Socialism, however, is a varient of Socialism which emphasizes the "Democratic" part and minimizes the "Socialist" part. These advocates hold that Democracy is superior to Justice--that Democracy is superior to Rights--that Democracy is superior to liberty. What does Democratic Socialism mean in theory and in practice? First, we might ask, what does Democracy mean? What does Democracy lead to? Democracy is merely the concept of the "divine right of kings" applied to an entire population. Just as the monarch had unlimited authority over his people, SOCIETY has unlimited authority over its people. Just as the monarch could claim ANYTHING as a right, SOCIETY can claim anything as a right. Just as the monarch could dispose of anyone he so chose for any reason, Society can dispose of anyone it chooses for any reason. Just as the king's authority was law; so, in Democracy, the opinion of the majority is law. As Nietzche said, delusion is rare in individuals, but almost certain en masse. That while a single man can be driven mad, when society is directed by its whims, this is almost an inevitability--the norm--the expectation. What happens to a society when anything it demands it receives? What happens to society when law is dictated by popular vote and not by rationally devised and defensible principles of rights and justice? What occurs is that the minority gang up together to oppress the majority. If the minority is the successful businessmen, the minority is the unssuccessful and the laborer. Coveting the wealth of the successful, the unsuccessful clamor to divvy it up. They claim--by right of being the majority--the right to use and dispose of the man in any manner it pleases. They do not want him to give up creating wealth. They do not want him to cease his business. What they demand of him is the right to enslave him--to force him to go on working for the benefit without receiving any benefit for himself. The Democratic Socialist cries, "But we do not want to make him our slave," adding, "We must agree to limitations on how much wealth he can accumulate." He says, by implication, that whatever limit of their seizure of his wealth they will claim will be justified and limited within reason. Reason, of course, is preceisely not how he intends to deal with the successful businessman because the initiation of force and reason are opposites. The initiation of force is an admonition that the initator does not intend to be dealt with rationally, substituting a gun for an argument--with death as the final arbiter. At its core, Democracy is a total abdication of reason. It is whim worship applied to an entire society. It is a society structured around whatever whim the majority happens to feel, at any time, and for any reason--without reasons! WIthout justification. Without explenation or argument. It is, if you will, purely gang warfare applied to an entire society--with the principle of "might makes right" disguised by vote and general agreement. And, as such, Democratic Socialism may, perhaps, be the most evil form of Socialism because it tries to disguise its evil by appealing to the supreme right of the majority to use and dispose of any man it pleases, for any end, and without any rational argument. It is the principle of "my gang is bigger; and therefore, I am right," the political expression of truth and right as a product of societal approval. Where every man is forced to be a killer and victim, and where general cooperation and peace amongst men is impossible. Democratic Socialism is the idealization of a cannibal society.

Hear me out- I'm on a quest right now to find specifically what it is about humans that make us distinguished from machines. While it's easy to say "AI can't create real art because it lacks the human element," we often struggle to identify what that human element actually looks like in... read more

Has anybody else heard about these. Some sort of artificial organism made out of repurposed dead frog cells. Kind of like necromancy in a way. Raises alot of questions about life. We like to think we crave truth — but do we really? Nietzsche warned us with his hammer; Plato showed us the shadows on the wall.
