I once was an advocate for such policies to help groups that were at a disadvantage or less observed in different fields. Over the past 5-6 years my views have changed after witnessing how it felt to take advantage of these programs to help minorities. I wondered to myself, "Isn't this still discriminatory toward the groups government programs are trying to help? Why should one group be favored over another? If one group receives help does this mean they are innately incapable of achieving the success that the other group achieved?" It is interesting the different perspectives on this subject. Especially now with universities pushing for inclusion of all groups, diverse environment for all, and altering the chances for both groups to receive simialr outcomes in spite of innate differences. Where does one go? What stance to choose? Can you be against affirmative action and still reap the benefits? Is it dishonest? It hurts me to see when one view is pushed over the other and not carefully analyzing both perspectives. Hearing the reasons and evidence for all perspectives on the "diversity issue". It is often those who are for support for being a minority view themselves as victims and perpetuate that mindset versus those who are against this diversity business saying if one person can achieve it so can another. What are your views on this matter and the general matter of progressive societies wanting a diverse future for all? Please help yourself in adding/recommending any articles, books, or sources. When newly freed slaves and their direct descendents moved to the city they found that the prices for them specifically was a lot more than certain kinds of people. So they moved to where they could in the city because that's where the jobs were. When it came time for the government to set up schools and roads and all the lovely things we're taxed on, the black ghettos got the least. The children got worse education than those a few blocks over, and their parents weren't even legally allowed to learn to read. That's not even touching on the fact that the first generation of black students /allowed/ in white schools is still alive. I knew a guy who summed it up like this - "if a black guy and I were trying to get a job and we're totally equal everywhere else, then I'm going to get the job. Not because it's right, but because that's how society works" and that's why we need affirmative action.

Affirmative action is unconstitutional. We already have the Civil Rights act to protect us from discriminatory practices. However, Aaffirmative action is extremely discriminatory against Asians, at least when it comes to schooling. If people that cared about black progress/education actually cared, they wouldn’t start “helping” after 13 years of trash schooling. They should be starting at the beginning: kindergarten. Pre-K even. Allowing a child to go through years of poor schooling so that they aren’t on par with students from more afluent communities/schools, results in them struggling, dropping out, or having to work 3x as hard in order to keep up with everyone else that received a proper education Affirmative action is a lazy, and terrible attempt at evening the playing field. An embarassment imo.
