Single doesnt mean damaged

At my age, being single is so often equated as being damaged or unwanted. Everyone around is in a relationship or has been married for 10 years, has two or more kids and a house and a dog. But I am single and "worse" (read sarcasm) I'm a single mom. So, to many i am damaged or im someones unwanted problem. But im NOT. And neither are you. Someone elses choice to leave, does not make us damaged or worthless. What it does make us is stronger, more knowledgeable about what we want and don't want, and mostly it makes us cautious. Especially as single parents. If you're like me, you never want to see the pain in your childs eyes when they learn that someone they loved and idolized, has abandoned them. So we are cautious. We don't just hang out with any one, we value our time and energy. We have protective barriers and we want someone who is willing, not to knock down our barriers and make us vulnerable, but to join us and help us reinforce our barriers from the hurts in the world. It takes time and patience to get to know someone who has been broken down and destroyed by "love", but when you do, man is it worth it. We know what real love is and when you give us yours, we will return it to you tenfold. We are not damaged or thrown away, we are rare and authentic and worth the effort.

So you chose, from the very beginning, to be a single parent? You never had any expectation that they would parent this child with you? You felt no betrayal, fear, or abandonment when you were left to do the job of a village by yourself? Everyone is damaged Miss. There's no shame in it, but you can't deny it. You simply aren't invulnerable. No one is. (edited)

Sorry, I got caught up in the moment, and didn't realize how much I wrote. Just venting I guess.

Thank you so much ❤ being a single mother, I have tried to be careful about bringing men into my son's life. Despite my best efforts, I chose poorly. More so chose poorly for me. They cared for my son, but I don't think they were prepared to be what they claimed they were and that's okay. I just wish they had known sooner so it didn't break me losing them after so many years. It's so hard out here for single parents.

Of course not. That is so true, we are cautious because we know we deserve better and for our future family. 😎🤜🤛

Yeah, I can totally relate to this and I agree in so many ways, I'm single 18 and 3months pregnant with a rape baby, but I already love my baby I don't care how they came to be their the love of my life until well until otherwise I guess. I want love truly I do but we'll I truly do feel broken and damaged and yeah I've had other woman tell me already that I'm pregnant I should be more happy I should be smiling and living for my baby but what do you think I'm doing already. Telling me all of this and that won't help because speaking isn't as simply as doing and it's not as easy as actually living it okay. Sure I understand I have a baby I know that and I'm trying my hardest to be happy to smile and to actually live my life but if you were to live in my shoes you wouldn't have made it past age 12. You probably would have killed yourself by then if not earlier because my life well in one word and this is not an exaggeration it was hell on earth. Sure I'm a fighter and a survivor but that doesn't mean its gonna be so simple and easy to be happy and okay, it's so hard but all I can say is that I'm trying and I'm not one to give up so easily so people should be happy with the fact that I'm getting better sure it's not as fast as they want or would like but it's good enough for me and my baby.

I know I am a week late to the conversation, but thank you for posting this. Being a single father is tough and I often wonder if I am overlooked for that reason. (edited)
