“Look at me,” he commanded, his voice a low rasp that scraped over my skin. “See what your game has summoned.”

Then his mouth was on mine, but it was not a kiss. It was a branding. A punishment and a promise fused into one searing point of contact. It was all teeth and possession, a devouring of my gasp, my breath, the very illusion of my control. I tasted copper my own lip, bitten in the struggle or split by his ferocity, I didn’t know. The pain was sharp, bright, a clarifying counterpoint to the dark flood of sensation.

One arm banded around my waist, crushing me against the unyielding wall of his body. The other hand slid from my face, down the column of my throat, his thumb pressing against my frantic pulse. He could feel the wild, terrified rhythm of it, the truth my body sang against my will. A dark, satisfied sound rumbled in his chest.

The silk of my gown gave way with a sound like a sigh. Not a careful undressing, but a claiming. Fabric tore, cool air hitting my skin, followed immediately by the scorching heat of his palms. He mapped my body as if re-discovering a territory he owned, his touch leaving trails of fire over my ribs, the curve of my hip, the arch of my back. He backed me toward the bed, a slow, inexorable advance until the backs of my knees hit the mattress and I fell, not onto soft linens, but onto the hard plane of his body as he followed me down, pinning me beneath him.

The weight of him was absolute. It stole my breath, anchored me in a reality composed solely of him—the flex of his muscles, the press of his arousal against my thigh, the winter-storm intensity of his eyes watching my every fractured expression.

“This,” he growled against the shell of my ear, his breath hot, “is where your rebellion ends. You play with fire, little one? Then you will burn with me.”

He entered me in one swift, devastating stroke. There was no gentle preamble, only the brutal, beautiful shock of being filled, breached, owned. A broken cry tore from my throat, part pain, part shattered relief. He caught the sound with his mouth, swallowing it as he began to move.

It was not lovemaking. It was a battle stripped to its most elemental form. A conquering. Each deep, relentless thrust was a demand for surrender, a physical echo of his will overpowering mine. My nails scored down his back, drawing a hiss from him that was pure pleasure. He shifted, hooking an arm under my knee, lifting and opening me wider, plunging deeper, hitting a place that made my vision whiten.

Pleasure, sharp and vicious, coiled in my core, a traitorous serpent rising to meet his assault. I fought it, fought him, my hips bucking against his control, but every movement only dragged us both closer to the edge.

“Who do you belong to?” he demanded, his rhythm becoming punishing, driving the air from my lungs.

I shook my head, a final, feeble denial.

He stilled, buried deep within me, the tension in his body vibrating with barely leashed power. He leaned down, his lips brushing my tear-streaked cheek. “Say it.”

The order was soft, deadly. And in that suspended moment, on the precipice of ruin and rapture, the last of my resistance crumbled. The truth I’d been fleeing was the only anchor left.

“You,” I gasped, the word a shattered thing. “I belong to you.”

A predatory triumph flashed in his eyes. “Again.”

“You, Zidaan. Only you.
