On this day 2014, Italian coductor Claudio Abbado died in Bologna aged 80. I have seen him conducting the Orchestra of Teatro Alla Scala. I recommend a great recording of Verdi's 'Simon Boccanegra' from 1997. Same Orchestra. José van Dam, Nicolai Ghiaurov, Mirela Freni, Jose Carreras.
