This year I enjoyed “Lights & Magic”, the story of ILM’s humble beginnings. It may be a bit controversial but I’d be interested in knowing why/how “antisemitism” came to be. Growing up on Guam, there isn’t a Jewish population. Some of the jokes on “Seinfeld” went over my head. I didn’t even know Seinfeld was a Jewish name until my teacher told me 😅. I guess in a nutshell, I’d like to learn more about the Jewish people; their struggles and triumphs

Wait -- Roots wasn't accurate enough? Just kidding. That would be a unique series. There were several different parties that traded, and to several different countries. I'm certain it would open some eyes.

Historical backdrop: The principal writers of the NT was Paul of Tarsus. Early illustrations of Paul show him with a sword, as he was with the Royal Guard in Jerusalem. The Roman soldiers there reported to Pilate. Roman Jews were the Saducees, Israeli Jews were the Pharisees. Jesus was an Essene (Nazarene). The Temple and Sanhedrin we're both ruled by Saducces (30 BCE to 70 CE) whom also reported to Pilate. Story background: After beating and dragging members of the Jerusalem Church from their homes as a Roman soldier, he was smitten by a Jewish girl he wanted to marry. Her father would only allow her hand to a teacher (rabbi). Paul left the guard and enrolled in school as a Pharisee to become a rabbi. He failed out. Those who were in school had been so since childhood. He had not. He had to find another way. Story: On the road toto Damascus, he had a vision that made him the 13th disciple of a prominent Essene group whose leader had been put to death by Pilate for treason. He told his story to James, who sent him off, warning him to only preach to the Roman populations in his travels that were not Jewish. Paul changed the religion taught by the Jerusalem Church, proselytized to other Jews and made changes that would align itself to the Roman gods that were worshiped by most of the people of the land. The NT notes two occasions in Paul's writings that he was called on the carpet by James for his activities. Paul spoke against the Pharisees, which rejected him, and he spoke against women, as his wife to be turned down his hand in marriage. He created a new religion that a millennial later would be called Christianity, but his hatred for the Pharisees, which are the Jews and rabbis of today remain prominent in his writings, citing that the Jews were the children of the devil. Outcome: While the Essenes followed Torah and a compilation called the Books of Enoch, both found among the Dead Sea Scrolls, a respository for the Essene communities, he never understood that Jesus was himself was from a faction of Judaism, as he knew little about the religion and did not speak Hebrew. For nearly 2,000 years, there has been Christian hatred toward the Jews and Judaism based on a story of a second trial that could have never taken place. Also, remember, that it was Gamliel, the most prominent Pharisee of the age, that stood up and opposed Pilate in defense of Jesus -- to no avail. Member of the Jewish religion would have gone against anything that Rabbi Gamliel stood for. Gamliel was also one of the principal voices and the Talmud. I hope this provides some insight as why so much anti-Semitism has existed for so long. It still remains part of the Bible that Christians read today. (edited)
