Homelessness

If you have ever been to a city then you have seen at least one homeless person. There are a million reasons as to why they may be living like that but one thing is for certain. They are still human and still have rights. I know many are beyond help and giving cash just fuels their drinking or drug addictions. But they are still human. They are sick and need care. At a bare minimum they just need a place to be able to exist and live. They are pushed out from street to street, beaten battered and mocked. Some are menaces to society while others are just broken and trying to survive in turmoil. I know its not the holiday of easter yet, but i came across a homeless person while out shopping in a city near my hometown. So i decided to put together a care package since the stores are full of easter goodies and i celebrate the holiday with my family. A hot sandwich, chips, water, treats, a little surprise in a golden egg and a card with a note for the reason i believe in showing kindness to the less fortunate. Yes it defeats the purpose to share my act of kindness here, but its not for self glory. It is to promote that we can all show a little kindness to these people. You don't have to spend money on them but at bare minimum lets support their right to live and just exist. Some have a chance to recover, while some should just be allowed to live in peace. One of my favorite places on earth is slab city California also known as salvation mountain. I visited there a few years ago. Known as one of the last free places on earth it is a place where anyone can go and just live. The living conditions are terrible, climate unsuitable but those who were there even having nothing seemed so happy. The national guard was running training nearby and a few of the friendly dogs of slab city went to say hello and the soldiers loved it. One slab resident yelled "FJB" and the whole unit let out a hell yeah! I wish more places like this existed as sanctuaries for those tired of trying to run in the rat race society forces upon us. "Love thy neighbor" instead of grumbling "they could work like i do" or saying "gross, what worthless people." You dont know their story unless you take the time to talk with them. They may even lie, but realize perhaps theyve just done all that they know to do to survive another day. Not all of us had good starts in life or lost everything in unforseen circumstances. Try not to forget the many luxuries we get while participating in society. A warm cozy bed, hot shower, plenty of food, clean clothes, perhaps a vehicle etc. We easily forget how good some of us have it compared to others. If like me and have just a little extra, share it. The smile youll recieve is worth so much more then anything bc it is a reward for your heart and soul. You feel humanity and what an intense feeling that is.
