2yThe perfect day doesn’t exist
Bet: It’s a beautiful crisp fall day. You wake up and the sun is gently shining through the sheer curtians of your bedroom window. Through it you see the beautiful yellow, orange, and red of autumn leaves. The sun filtering through them makes them shine bright like gold. It’s the day you have been waiting for. A day of peace. No plans. Just wandering. You get up it’s early because you want to make the most of the day. You get ready, taking your time. There is no need to rush today. Your fat grey and white fluff ball of a cat named Gimli greets you at his food bowl. You pick him up and he protests but finally gives in to the hugs and kisses you give him before giving him his morning meal. As he eats you say your goodbye, lock up and walk down to a local cafe. You feel a little guilty but the new cat cafe just looks too cute not to stop by. The owners, a cute newly wed couple took the old queen ann vctorian down the street and turned into a cat cafe. Gimli will understand. He always does. This place has become your new favorite place. The coffee is excellent, the rooms are perfect for working, studying or reading. You plan to do the latter. You enter and the smell of coffee and fresh baked pecan pie fill the air. It’s too early in the day for pie but you get some anyway with your new favorite latte. It’s a treat day after all. You spy the chair you want and make your way over. Its big and squishy. You curl up into it and pull out your book. The last few chapters waiting for you to devour. As you sit reading, a fat calio named Gertrude hops up and sits in your lap purring contentedly. Just as you finish your book Gertrude jumps down and heads to a sunny spot in the window equipped with a hammock. She jumps up and continues her mid morning nap, basking in the golden sunlight. It’s time to leave. On your way out you spot some homemade pet treats and decide to buy some for Gimli. You exit the cafe and walk down the sidewalk to your favorite bookstore. You know you could just order the book online and probably spend less money but the bookstore on the corner is magical. It’s old, and smells of candle wax and parchment. As you open the door you hear the tinkle of little crystals. An older southern women, who has to be in her late 70s, greets you as she sits behind an old mahogany counter. She asks “ Do you need anything, honey?” You tell her what your looking for and she points you in the direction you need to go. However, as you meander through the rows of book cases you find another cat. A black tabby this time. You call out “ what’s his name?” As you “pspspsps” at him. “Theodore” the old woman calls back. You take a few minutes to give Theodore some head pats and chin scratches. You don’t want to leave him but you are on a mission. As you walk away he follows you weaving himself in and out between your legs. You pet him again as he jumps up onto the bookcase where your new book is sitting. You pluck the book from its shelf along with a few others make your way to the counter, Theo right behind you. As you check out, The old woman, whose name is Mabel, looks at you and holds out her hand. She then looks at Theo. She is holding out treats. You take them excitedly and give them to Theo. He gobbles them up as you rub his head one last time. It’s almost noon now. The coffee and pecan pie slice you had as breakfast is gone and so you make your way to a small bistro you noticed on your way in the bookstore for some warm soup in a fresh baked bread bowl and an iced coffee. The crispness in the air has melted away into the perfect fall day. You decide to sit outside on the small patio. A light breeze cools your skin as you sit people watching. The warm sunshine soaks your skin making the breeze feel refreshing rather than chilling you. Once your order arrives you take out your new book and read while you savor the best soup you have ever had. You finish up your lunch you check your watch. You still have some time. You decide to head to the newer part of town so you head home to check on Gimli and get your car. Gimli greets you at the door and smells the other cats on you. Jealous, he starts rubbing his scent on you. You feel a little guilty so you give him one of the small treats you got for him at the cat cafe. He takes it and you decide he is satisfied and not too mad. You give him kisses and pat his head. He ignores you and goes to sit in his favorite box by the window. You grab your car keys and head to Target, maybe some new cat toys will win him over. Home Goods is next. You don’t buy anything but you take some pictures for inspiration and promise to come back later. Your last stop before you head back home is a small candle shoppe that just opened. They sell homemade candles and soaps that smell like heaven. You buy a few candles and some soap that smells like fall spices and make your way back home. When you arrive you see a car in the drive. It’s early you weren’t expecting them. As you walk in Gimli is greeting you. He is looking handsome in a new bowtie. You pick him up and as you do you notice a small note attached to his collar. It says hallway. You laugh. The hearts on the note are too cute. As You make your way down the hall the warm glow candlelight greets you. Your soulmate and partner in crime await you. They lead you to the bathroom where a warm bath is wating along with candle light and a glass of wine. They tell you to take your time and leave. Allowing you to soak in the steaming bubbles for as long as you wish. The tension you didnt know you were carrying melts away as you take in the scent of the candles and soap. The serenity you feel refreshes and renews your soul. When you emerge you feel brand new. Relaxed. A note on the bathroom door lets you know that dinner is waiting and to head out to the paito. The fire pit is lit and your favorite taco truck cuisine is on the patio table. They had went out while you were relaxing and picked them up. Your soulmate hands you a glass of tea and you sit down and share the meal. You tell them about Gertrude and Theodore and you make plans to visit them together. They tell you about their day and ask you if you like your food. Its all so simple, normal but perfect. As you clear the table your partner gets an air matress out of the closet and blows it up. “Were camping” they laugh as you stare is disbelief. How could this day get any better? You finish up the dishes and walk back outside. The patio has been transformed into a private movie theatre. A giant sheet has been strung along the wall and a projector in place. Your partner plugs something in and to your astonishment the patio is lit with the soft glow of amber twinkle lights. You sit with your partner cuddled around the fire for a while. When it begins to die you make your way to the air mattress which has been covered with blankets and pillows and a soft mosquito canopy. It looks like something out of a fairytale. Gimli pokes his head through the cat door and surveys scene before him. He saunters over and you pick him up and carefully place him on the blankets. You, your parnter and Gimli start your favorite movie just as the last rays of sun fall below the horizon. Cuddled together you laugh and spend precious moments simply being with each other. Drinking in each others love. You start to drift off to sleep wrapped in the loving embrace of the one your entire being loves on this earth. But before you succumb to unconsciousness you stop and survey the day and are eternally grateful for the little slice of heaven on earth you found.
