For those who don't know, Diwali is India's biggest and most important holiday of the year, and it's happening right now. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. I just saw that NYC announced Diwali will be an official holiday next year and kids will get school off. I thought it was cool. Happy Diwali to all who celebrate!
