Problem solving as a hobby

Is there anyone else here, who enjoys solving math problems as a hobby? I'm talking both in general, and specifically for competition/olympiad-style problems, which are definitely my favorites :)

Do you really want a partner, a link?

Focus on one option (not one person, but the kind of link you are looking for...) not on a list of attributes showing off). The more options your brain have, the less it is interested in continue for more engagement. These have the name of dopamine system. And they help us to choose between easy… (edited) read more

Not built for algorithms: High signal, zero noise.

My rarest flex on a social app is solving problems analog-style—notebook in hand, deep in the woods. Grounded, deliberate, and built for depth over surface noise, deep systems over small talk, and calculated side-quests over routines. Skip the icebreakers: tell me about a broken system you'd… read more

Mostly I've been playing Control: Resonant the last week. I've been loving it. The Remedyverse (Alan Wake and Control, mostly) is great. The worldbuilding/lore, the tone, visual styles, writing, loving all of it. Beyond that, playing a decent amount of Destiny 2, again. Wanted to farm some of the… read more

Reflection V Rumination

Being one of lifes ruminators can be exhausting. A lot of times I hear introspection being spoken about like it’s some sort of an upgrade but there's a cost to that when your brain lacks an off switch. Over time my own mind developed a 2nd layer that watches the first layer then the two start… read more

Couple life

When two of people love each other taking care and listen well and and sit talk about the problem for solving.

Did you know that majority of people lack a consistent inner monologue/voice? Most people only experience their inner voice when reading or problem solving and it's usually fragmented and not consistent.

I have a constant inner monologue/voice, there is no off switch for my conscious voice, which is why I can't meditate or clear my mind to save my life lmao. I recently found out that it is quite rare for someone to have an inner monologue that doesn't stop/shut up and even Nikola tesla had a brain… read more

DM character npcs

As the forever DM of my group, I NEVER get to actually play the game, I'm always stuck running it. You've heard it said before.

You've heard it said before that everyone is a little narcissistic. It doesn't have to be that way, while true it is more so a social and cultural problem as social and cultural norms can normalize aspects of it. The Screaming Butterfly: A Life Unmasked

The butterfly, a symbol of transformation, once felt like a silent scream—not quiet beauty. Outwardly composed, I wore a mask to navigate chaos, hiding sensory overload, social anxiety, and persistent dread. My silent plea for understanding was muffled by years of restraint. At 52, a diagnosis of… read more

Why an Anti-Narcissist Culture Would Need to be Heavily Reliant on Bottom-Up Processing.

Top-down processing is a cognitive style where a person starts with a belief, assumption, narrative, or framework and then interprets new information through that lens. It filters perception, memory, and judgment through what is already expected or already believed. When people use it for judging… read more

Someone asked me what I had done that took a great deal of effort, only to later laugh and ask why I had bothered doing it in the first place. My answer: learning Arabic.

I enrolled in a class where all of the students didn’t even share my religion, which made the experience feel even more unusual. To make matters worse, I found the language incredibly difficult. Yet my reason for learning it was wonderfully simple: curiosity. I was fascinated by the script how it… read more

Questions asked….

✍️ A question that solves a problem is more valuable than one that clears the most doubts. Clearing doubts gives you answers; solving problems creates impact. ✍️ The goal isn’t to ask more questions, but to ask questions that lead to meaningful solutions and move things forward. ✨

Art as 💣 or 🩹

I think creators/artists who make great works of art only limit themselves to do two things: (a) Bomb = upend/criticize ideas or destroy so-called “sacred” beliefs and (b) Bandage or Balm = help make sense of or alleviate the suffering of life without solving the underlying problems.
