Anyone up for a language exchange?
I'm a Spanish and Galician native speaker who is fluent in English and competent in French, Portuguese and Catalan. I would love to improve those aforementioned languages, as well as initiating myself with Hindi. Plus, it would be a nice opportunity to weave mutual support and foster connections with #queer, #neurodivergent, #bipoc, #disabled, #feminist folx, as well as those of us who are dealing with #mentalhealth challenges. #lgbtqally and #transally are also welcome! I grew up internationally and consider myself a global citizen. You and I would have a lot to talk about, especially in terms of inequality, diversity, inclusion, basic human rights and simple needs aren’t being met. In Europe we have “human rights” we have an entire commission on it. But we don’t have any one who enforces those rights. No independent human rights enforcement agency. So people who require disability protections and benefits don’t receive them. One part of it is that neoliberal economic ideology, despite having failed and been disproven since the industrial age, has always found a way to capture and control all aspects of society. It produces collective exhaustion and people are tired of paying more taxes, having higher prices, lower wages, longer work hours, and disappearing social programs like poor health care, and the privitization of public state owned enterprises, which leads to worse services at a cost where not having heating during winter is forced upon them by an oligarchy that posts record high profits, pay no taxes, and even receive subsidies for exploiting the citizens. My electricity bill was 70 bucks, and the next month it was 900. And getting any kind of social assistance is impossible. You just have pages of beurocratic nonsense to fill out, and then The beurocrats have no idea how to help you, no one is responsible for anything, you get sent in circles, and even the very ministry responsible, has outsourced the work to a private company and they don’t care or know anything about your needs. Now I see homeless mental health patients roaming the streets, and even I need to stay at the hospital overnight and they said,the people at the top told us to reject anyone not even under emergency needs, so 30% of the hospital has empty beds, and us doctors had to take a paycut. I pay 3 times for national insurance, and doctors make me pay privately because the government insurance doesn’t pay them enough to cover treatment costs. Now someone who is disabled, they aren’t given their monetary or health care rights, but in Singapore? Everyone has the right to a home, universal healthcare, food, and the government has instituted a public awareness campaign of “the year of mental health awareness”. They even built new mental health centers, increasing the budget for treating mental illness, and also looked at the root causes like overwork, and addressed that issue! And what about communist china? Oh the people are living better, richer, and freeer lives than we are. The government over there is investing trillions, and wages are rising, benefits are rising, inflation flat, and unemployment, well they work far less hours than we do! Instead of learning from them, we demonize them. The corruption is within us.
