Nosferatu Review, Part 1: Introduction

This is quite random, but I love analyzing movies/books/music so I figured I'd drop this here for anyone interested in reading it.😁

I want to start out with this review by saying that I'm not a horror movie lover, per se. In fact I would say I have a strange relationship with the horror genre as a whole in that I prefer to read it rather than see it on screen. I have a very active imagination, so sometimes the images and negative feelings stick with me and keep me from sleep long after the movie is over. Horror is definitely not for everyone, and can mean different things to different people depending on what's on your conscience. But in all honesty, Nosferatu was a work of art, and Eggers really leaves that concept of horror being a personal experience (and therefore open to interpretation) festering in your mind like one of Count Orlok's maggots.

***SPOILER ALERT***
I've seen all sorts of reviews that both defend and/or call out the nature of Ellen's relationship with the vampire. Some saying she was sexually abused, r*ped, manipulated, possessed, emotionally abused/manipulated, and all other forms of evil and as such is violence against women. On the other side of the spectrum, there are people that consider the vampire attractive and romanticize that abusive, horrific, and demonic treatment in the name of "oh it's just gothic horror, that's the point of it".

As someone who is a villain lover (I just feel like they have more range/passion/ambition than heroes do sometimes), I would say that both of these interpretations are true, but they're also both oversimplifications. Their relationship is supposed to, in my opinion, demonstrate the complexity of human emotions towards our own capabilities for good and evil and coming to terms with the darkest parts of ourselves in order to be fully free, as opposed to just continually repressing them (especially where sexuality is concerned). It's a disgusting, disturbing, primal, spiritual, beautiful, and powerful metaphor for the nature of sexuality, possessiveness, mental health, trauma, and what could be considered true love, all in the context of a woman's experience.

In other words, the girls that get it, get it. And those that don't get infected with the plague. With that, on to Part 2!🧛🖤❤️🐀🦇

I haven't seen yet. I heard it's amazing. I was a big fan of the first one. Going to watch it in its orginal German. Heard there is more context and other details in that version.
