Imagine being in a conversation with someone who isn't around too much. Conversations seem to be at a good pace and then you start feeling apart (not sure if this makes sense) You try to keep the conversation happening but grow tired of it eventually. You want to be there but want to escape from that at the same time. If someone is interested they would try right? How long until you stop trying?

That happens to me a lot. Way to often. I used to keep fighting for it. Keep trying. Until I just broke down and couldn't take it anymore. Now I recognize it, and know that no matter how much effort I put in, it won't matter. You can't always be the one putting in energy, it is one sided and not fair to you. Your energy is much better spent elsewhere. Learn the signs, give it a few more shots. And then let it go. No sense draining yourself for someone who doesn't care.

You're correct at the end. If the other person was still interested you would sense their enthusiasm and effort. If it's not there you can sense that too. I will say that in some cases the enthusiasm wears off because one person expects some kind of progress (moving to a video call?) and when things remain the same they interpret that as a lack of interest... No one said this would be easy 😅
