When do you know the relationship needs to end?

Let’s be real - most people who break up are not leaving an abusive situation (and that’s a good thing). Most breakups are regular people who realize they just aren’t very compatible. When did you realize the person you were dating at the time was not someone you want to keep going out with? How did you end it?

I left my last relationship because he ranted to me daily about how much he hated his job and his life yet did nothing to improve it. He rarely asked me about me or my day. If I turned to him for support, his suggested solution to my problems was always intimacy. He never initiated dates, I planned them all. He was a wannabe rapper and music maker but his material was garbage and he was a terrible rapper. He was so confident and delusional about his talent it was so painful to witness. He self medicated with vodka and weed and refused to go to therapy for his trauma. Text was our main form of communication, so I let him go that way. He understood and apologized for not being a better boyfriend.

When one side already left their responsibilities . I decided to divorce before because I was the only one who took the responsibility in the family, rising kids, housework, earning money. So I was married but I have responsibility like I have no husband. (edited)

I left my last relationship, when I realised that this is not how i want to spend the rest of my life... The guy was great and what we had when things were good was great. However, half the time i felt alone and unwanted. I felt i was the only one building the relationship while he turned his back on the cracks... So i just told him i am done and asked where i can drop off his stuff (edited)

It was mutual, when figured out we where acting more like best friend than lovers. And that's how we ended an almost 3 years relationship and became best friends. I still have his house keys, sleeping in his house after going out and sometimes just go there to hang out with the cat lol

When I realized that we were not fixing our issues. Only avoiding them and hoping they disappear. Normally, it should be a wake up call for action, but we were in this mode for so long that emotionally we were simply not there anymore. She told me she dreaded comming back home from work because she knew I was home. And I was feeling unappreciated because nothing that I did was enough and the intimacy felt more like an obligation than something we both wanted. We kinda decided at the same time that it was time to part. And it was hard because despite it all, we still loved eachother (at least I like to think). Took me years and a deep depression to finally find my way again.
