Marriage: does it benefit anyone?

As far as I can tell it only benefits spouses with medical decisions and financial stability if one of us dies. On the other hand combining incomes takes away access to many useful benefits I currently have for my children. I appreciate the concept of marriage and wish it was logically realistic long term for us. Society has set it up this way!

Marriage: does it benefit anyone?

Ok, we're here. Bring it on. Marriage makes monogamous relationships legitimate. It's best practiced when the whole of society respects marriage and the commitment two people made, in public, to each other. Sure 'till death do you part' is a long time, but if they're intent on commiting. Don't shame it, respect it. And if you're not committed, you probably don't deserve them. Love is work, everyday. Believe me, it's not fun dying alone. (edited)

Agree with you in the "concept of marriage" is another man made ideology about relationships and people.. Which I despise, yet want to attend, it's a weird feeling...

The point of marriage is to create legal, moral and social bonds between the spouses (and, by extention, their families). To get married is to declare, before society and before the gods, that you are a family, that you have made a lifelong commitment to each other. It is unfortunate that society has lost/is losing its appreciation for marriage, given that the family unit is the building block of society. (edited)

It's definitely difficult to find someone who is genuinely loyal and mean it when they say the word love so I understand this!!

spousal privilege in court, creates legal cushions for spouses (most women depending) in event of sham marriage/divorce entitling Rights/privileges and custody of children and alimony. it's good for some, not great for everyone. situational as most things are. also if you have a pension of purchase one/have retirement assets, the most valid benefit is the joint survivor annuity that will go to a spouse in perpetuity until their life expires, if that option is selected. there's probably too many angles to consider why legal marriage is situationally advantageous without writing a longer block text. creates record of history, descendants to identify ancestors, etc. could go on and on.

It depends on so many factors and other stuff lol. So many different things to take into account like living, income and so on that I doubt I'd ever do it personally

Right? It's such a beautiful thing but when you look at it closer it really leaves you wondering who on earth thought that a lot of things that happen because of it was a good idea to begin with.

I think it benefits the already well off people. But it's easily abusable by less than savory people and can be used as a shackle and bludgeon from people looking to gain financially from it

Depending on where you are- I’m in Virginia and our auto insurance rates dropped dramatically. There is also the benefit of survivorship. But getting divorced is for the birds 🪶🪶🪶 (edited)

I'm sorry do you mean medical conditions because medical decisions don't make any sense we can't choose who we are and we can't choose to not be disabled it's not a decision to us

What is marriage exactly? Well its firstly a ceremony for making a life long commitment to each other. So problem is that most people generally think they are mature enough to realise they won't grow into different versions of themselves and that their circumstances won't change. Thats why many marriages fail. So the double edge sword of marriage is that you need to work and put in effort to maintain a relationship and be mature and mature with your partner. Its having the same values and beliefs and spiritual outlooks on things, yet fill each others needs. Its creating a life together under the connection and promise you both share. So whats the bennifit of it? So its all relative to what tipes of people that might see it qs valuable

Yeah, marriage benefits women and children. Men just have to provide a d if they leave, then they lose their stuff.
