It depends on who is right in the specific case, also some people just don't click with other people because of personality differences. It isn't necessarily someone's fault it just is what it is ya know.

It definitely depends on your relationship with your family. If it's a positive, close relationship, then you want a partner who is a part of that and doesn't drive a wedge.

My core value is family. I find it important that I can get along with his family and he can get along with mine. I wouldn't want to put up with his parents not liking me or my family. Absolutely not. Life is hard as it is. I want my children to be able to spend time with their grandparents and cousins. I never had that growing up.

See, I feel that the range doesn't properly convey the complexity of the situation. Because I can understand my partner not liking my family (Within reason), but I would still want them to get along. I would do my best to try and find the issue and see if it can be resolved. No one should ever have to chose between their partner and their family.

There has to be a bare minimum, if there isn't... My family comes first, without that bare minimum (each person has one) things would be so hard to work out... I don't want my partner to be besties with my family, that isn't necessary, but being able to eat together in the same room... 🤷♂️

It can be situational but personally my family can be a bit much and while they are my blood, that doesn't mean I am bound to them if that makes sense? So I'd prob side with my partner

I avoid having my partners meet my family when/if possible. Not because I'm ashamed of either, but because I know my family is mostly terrible or in terrible situations, or mentally unhealthy in ways that would negatively impact my partner. But bonus, I also live over 2000 miles away from any family. So, I don't have to deal with it. That all said, I usually side with whomever had more compelling data and sources (partner or stranger, doesn't matter).

It's important that both parties make an effort to get along with the families from both sides so we don't have to choose. The thing is we can only control ourselves, not other people. But if we must choose, we should try our best to be reasonable, even though it can be hard when emotions are involved. (edited)
