I've thought of this several times before. I take my vows seriously. When i say "til death do us part; for richer and poorer; in sickness and in health," i mean it. If i'll end up regretting it later, then that's on me for making the promise in the first place. If the sickness is something like mental illness that makes her insane, then the more she'd need support. I'm not someone who easily requests time off work, but in a life-or-death situation, i'll make sure to be by her side as much as possible.

Up to his will and our resources, whatever he needs for his well-being in sickness and our relationship would be considered. Some prefer euthanasia. Some need a break to be with themselves. Some withdraw their own life. If our situation calls, I would take care of him, with support from a fulltime caregiver & sometimes his family/friends too. I can't do it alone, which might put a dent in my physical, emotional and mental health & then kill both of us softly when I burnout. A few months to test the water and see what's next. Who knows how it goes in a long run, but at first, I want to give him/our relationship a try, with all my heart. Been there for a few years when I took care of my paralysed widowed granduncle, until his last day. A full-time hired nurse and my family of origin, including me, it took. Sometimes his extended family too. A village/a group of thoughtful and committed people the sickness costs, not just me I guess. (edited)
