I'm looking at from a perspective of just being around people. Some of my co-workers are shocked when I go to concerts or the beach on my own. It's my way of going out to explore. I had a therapist challenge me to go out and meet people for a week. I couldn't do it. I stayed at home the entire week. She asked me why it was hard for me to meet people. I told her, I'm not the kind of person to walk up to someone to say something. There are people who might want to be on their own, just like me. When I go out, I want to explore on my own and if someone talks to me, that is ok. Being pressured to meet someone every time I go out is not the way to get me to meet people. Falling in love, I don't think about it. If it happens, it happens. I'm not a talker unless I'm comfortable around the person. Each of us has a pace to meeting people & forming relationships. As long as we know what that pace is, we know where to place our focus.

I don't want to fall in love with just anyone - I legitimately can't do that. So I like to say that I want to find love, but I'm not interested in denying all other forms of connection to look for a person who may not exist. What this looks like in practice is something I'm still figuring out. I can and do get emotionally invested and involved with people very easily. I'm happy and ready to make a love story with someone I'm attracted to. A life story, however, is another thing entirely. I just don't feel I can make a life story with most of the people I connect with. That's just where I am. It doesn't mean I'm a bad person or that I'm trying to take advantage of people - I absolutely do not want to take advantage of anyone. I would love to build up something special with someone, but it takes two. And there is no one right answer for how to approach things. Everyone speaks a different language when it comes to love and relationships. I honestly don't even like the idea of looking for 'the one'. I feel like it's the kind of thing that cannot be forced or intentionally 'found'. Like, even when someone wants that, it is something that has to be built up to over a long period of time through the natural progression of a relationship. If you try to put the cart before the horse you will get somewhere, but it most likely won't be the place you wanted to go. (edited)

I think both ways has happened to me in terms of making someone like someone else. I did it unintentionally, she really liked me and pretended to be into the stuff I was into. And the other way she definitely dragged me down to where she was mentally and it put me in a pretty dark spot. Instant gratification is nice and all but it has taught me to be more cautious and thorough when selecting a partner. That aside I really do like building relationships over time it feels like a stronger bond if you get well acquainted before setting things in stone, though in today's age it does tend to be scarce.

This generation will know that kind of love when they realize love is not about what you want.
