Conundrum
I've been with my company for close to 14 years. I'll be eligible for a retirement plan with medical benefits once I put in my 20. I used to love my job but lately not so much. I'm miserable and depressed now... ... so should I try to finish my 20 or walk away now and lose what I've worked for?

May I suggest a therapist? Depression is something one can improve though it's very difficult. Normally I'd be the first to say "Indulge your depression, see where it takes you! Learn about yourself, depression is a journey inward, soul searching, so go on that journey. Leave that situation if it doesn't serve you."... But it is only 6 more years. And you've done the majority of the work. And depression is something you can work with. Therapy is a good start but there are countless ways to work on it on your own. Books, meditation, gurus, mental health help on Youtube. I am here because so much help is available and I dove into it. I didn't wait for a therapist. 80% of the work is your job. Find a teacher and become a student of yourself. Depression says the situation is intolerable. That you are trapped. You aren't. Yes this could be your choice, stay or go, or maybe the choice is something else. I would always say the choice is go within. You can do that and juggle that job - you'll just be doing that in a new job anyway - unless the depression is so bad you need to hide away and not work. Has it reached that stage yet? Note I know nothing about the situation. It could be the job from hell, but you outlined financial security that you worked 14 years for and risk losing. For something that is something you can get help for. Maybe try reaching out, friends, family, health care professionals. Know you aren't alone and there are a lot of resources available. (edited)
