I think it's quite amazing how we have to rethink vampires as monstruous beings because of the way we bouilt their lore around beauty and sexual attraction. They're monsters and we feel disgusted when the physical appearance reflects it... I don't know. Just my guess after watching the film and feeling my own discomfort.

I see what you mean, but it was Bram Stoker's Dracula that mainstreamed sexualized vampires in 19th century Gothic literature. Originally, vampires were bloodsucking vicious creatures for thousands of years in various folklore. As to the discomfort, that I also understand due to the revulsion of such a creature and how it acts. In a way, it's a mirror that we can see our own dark sides as monsters and would consume us if we're not careful. On a personal note, it was a refreshing reiteration of European folklore for viewers in the 21st century and I thoroughly enjoyed it. (edited)
