The Power of Journal : Being Your Own Best Friend

Writing has always been something that is used fundamentally for communication. With writing, people have been able to convey their feelings through words, sentences, and across paragraphs. While different places contain different languages, writing is still one of the types of communication. Speaking of communication, not only does it help us learn about our environment, but also ourselves. In one of many ways, journaling exists. While some people use journaling as a way to record events like an anecdote in their everyday life, people also use this as a coping mechanism to deal with their inner turbulence. How does it work, and more importantly, how does journaling, as the title says, help you become your own best friend? Journaling is by itself a style of writing. It is rather informal as opposed to research papers like thesis and dissertation. The way this works is you either grab a piece of paper and a pen, or wherever you prefer to write (in this modern time, mobile phone is possible). And because it is informal, its structure is loose, not following specific protocols and/or order. In my personal relationship with my diary, in the bad times I do cope using it. Although, I use a mobile phone and an application made just for journaling. The fun part about journaling is you can go as random as you go, and you can rant on it, throw opinions on it, and you will feel validated and heard, because the paper does not judge anything you write on it. It is also the best reflection buddy you will ever use because you can ponder upon multiple problems, set it down on the paper, and be able to organize your thoughts. Especially as an adult, juggling multiple problems is normal, and eventually, these responsibilities will give you a hard stumble. Luckily, journaling not only helps you vent emotions, but also can indirectly help you clear out your cloudy thoughts and set the issues at hand. Surprisingly, people with anxiety and/or depression benefit from its healing properties. To be candid, journaling is not alternative to therapy, however it can alleviate such feelings and you will know yourself better, hence being your own best friend. Journaling can do wonders in the journey of life. It can settle down your feelings, ponder upon sets of problems at hand, and make you feel validated and heard despite lacking another human presence but your own. However, I think that journal can not be a solution to everything, because at the end of the day, genuine relationships and connections, with whom you can be intimate with, is the best in this case. In cases where you are not a person to be open to everyone, journaling can be the best place to open up, as it guarantees a non-judgemental output and highly relieving as well. After all, it is the power of journal : being your own best friend.
