the city in wich Iive was saved from total blockade be the German invaders. The blockade lasted 872 days, during wich people died from hunger and winter frosts. People received food cards in limited quantites. Its amount covered 1087 calories per day for workers (people didn't stop working, scientists tried to synthesize vitamins from everything possible) and 684 calories for children. People ate glue and sawdust. There was no heating, electricity and water. We have a monument to the Bkocade ice-hole, where people came for water. On sleds and their foot dying people took their deads to the special burial sites. Now there are huge memorial cemeteries. "Everyone died, I'm the only one left", - a phrase from the diary of an 11-year-old girl, before whose eyes almost her entire family died. She died at the age of 14 during evacuation. Her medical card said: "Scurvy, dystrophy, nervous exhaustion, blindness..." We will always remember this.
