Question

Why are we humans so disgustingly contradictory?! We talk about love and then we seek physical beauty, we talk about love and then we search for other materialistic matters. What does a person specifically want? Is our contradiction the cause of the suffering we are in?

I think they just want to make excuses when what they are looking for doesn't match what they want, so when they say that they are looking for love and meet someone who doesn't match the character or with what they want, they will add some excuses to avoid it

It's interesting to me because in the biological sense, we humans tend to seek physical beauty because it signals better chances of a successful lineage and a healthy partner. For example, a man wouldn't want to choose a 90 year old grandma to procreate with because she wouldn't be able to reproduce. But when it comes to love, it doesn't matter. It makes sense too because when you're healthy in all areas of life such as physically, emotionally, mentally, etc, you tend to look more youthful, happy, energetic, beautiful or handsome and your energy is attractive. And physical beauty is valid in a sense that humans do love to see beauty, surround themselves with it, and look for it. But it's not everything. In my opinion, yes, it is shallow tho. It takes some lessons in life, wisdom, and maturity to truly appreciate inner beauty over physical beauty. So choosing physical beauty over love is pretty immature but it's part of being human. However, some people don't really know how to love deeply anyway. Many things can cause this such as internal struggles, bad childhood experiences, bad association with love by parental figures or nonexistent love, etc. Seeking materialistic matters over love is pretty shallow too but it does come into play when trying to build a strong family foundation. It is wiser tho to have concern over material matters but not to let it overtake life and love. It's just an inescapable part of being human, at least for now in this day and age. It calls for us to give the gift of grace to each other and be understanding but also trying to do better and evolve. What a person specifically wants is not going to be what they need. I've learned that people don't really know what they want. They're just guessing. With emotions, confusion and hormones mixed in it. What they need tho is to grow, and to grow in love, in the purer sense. And growth looks different for different people. Differing conditions and circumstances. Trusting in the process, being wiser and discerning, are the best things to do. Growth requires time, trials and errors, and some people might just remain stunted. We can't be too critical of people's growth tho. Growing is not easy. All we can do is be there to guide each other or become a good example for people to follow. It's just an inescapable part of humankind. To live is to suffer, but life is more than just suffering. They say love and hate is on the same spectrum and the opposite of love and hate is indifference. As long as we keep love, love will be with us. It needs to come for within 🤭

Humans are inherently paradoxical. It's why we can simultaneously love and hate someone with passionate intensity. We are the source of our greatest highs and the lowest lows all at once. You put that kind of capability in the invisible force of psyche and you open up the gates of paradoxical infinity.
