The fear of letting Kids down is making me really anxious, because there are things that I know they should know and then there are things which I HAVE to teach them acc. to their syllabus. 😑 God is giving me strength, but today.. rn.. I'm just feeling really.... I don't know... Need some virtual 'hand holding' and 'pat on the back' or anything someone can offer. 🥺 Any teachers out there? Don't teach everything. You will miss the schedule. Schedule and the correct topics are the important part. Keep it in the time frame. The fear and anxiousness are mostly due to this association of time frame, so do keep an eye on the timing. Don't get too close to the kids, keep it professional, because they won't listen. You need to be a bit strict about your work, but not too much too. Focus your mind, every day away from distractions. Its rather action that is more important from you, than the outside distractions. Don't let your mind, wander to any other thoughts. Be confident, that you can do the job well. Shut off the negativity, from outside. Sleep well. Keep an alarm. Use a notes app, and schedule all your actions in it and set reminders in your phone.

Hey fellow teacher! Sorry to read you're feeling anxious, but i understand you all too well! I have to disagree with the advice to keep your distance and just keeping it professional. Firstly, it won't happen. If you're someone who is naturally attuned to caring for the kids you will not be able to switch this off and it will just torment you further. Secondly, I honestly believe that makes a teacher worse. I haven't had a difficult student yet that I haven't been able to reach by genuinely giving a s**t about them and their well being. During my long years of student-ing all the teachers who inspired me in any and every way were the ones who cared and got involved on a personal level, even with just a "I see something's troubling you, do you need extra support?". While this is absolutely exhausting for us with the sheer number of students we have to know and support, it is part of our job. We don't just teach our subjects, we help raise generations :) That aside, I recognise the struggle with the material. The way I used to get around it was with strict planning of the required material, so we can get ahead of it and allow us "brekky lessons" which we could spend in chats, debates, games, and teaching things I think they needed / they wanted to learn outside of the books. If there really is no time, you can try using the material that is required to be taught but mixing it with relevant things that can also be fun and / or educational. I'm not sure what subject you teach to hive concrete suggestions however, but would be happy to offer ideas :) Mind you, I can only offer the perspective of an English teacher, don't know if that is going to be helpful in your circumstance. Regardless, you've got this. You're not disappointing the kids for sure. They know when you care and they are very forgiving to the teachers they like ;) We are all just humans, this is the most important thing fellow teachers and our students need to know and accept. We are not sentient encyclopaedias, or robots. We have good times, hard times, we forget things sometimes, and all of that is OK. Cut yourself some slack, take a breath, try to let your brain unwind when outside of work, and rejoice in the ever so nearing end of the school year ;)
