I'm curious to see the responses here. From my experience, men think they should want a caring and supportive person... but then they get quickly get bored of the calm and stability that usually accompanies such personalities.

A few years ago I met a woman who, while we didn’t work out in the end, showed me exactly what I want in a partner. She was nurturing, thoughtful of me, respectful of my feelings, and honest about her own feelings. She didn’t want anything from me, but rather wanted to simply BE with me. It was because of her that I stopped chasing and started being available, so to speak. Because after tasting what could’ve been I can never go back.

Men love a caring and supportive woman more now than ever, with how things are now both men and women are looking for all the wrong things when it comes to relashionships, things have become mainly focused on sex and looks, sex is only one ingrediant and not the main one either, and looks we need to start looking deeper than what we find on the outside we have forgotten what makes each indevidual special.

Yes, men typically do like caring and supportive women. Narcissists and psychopaths, for example, take advantage of such women and use them as pawns. Whereas empathetic and more honourable men genuinely do appreciate and reciprocate the support. Most men value and have emotions just as women do. Don't be fooled into thinking otherwise, and as our toxic culture of masculinity would have you believe. How much? That's a very relative and individual question: it will vary from individual to individual. However whether you are a man or a woman, autonomy is as important as it is healthy in any relationship. Yes, it's important to care for your partner but it's just as (if not more) important to know how to take care of yourself, and to allow your partner to exert the same degree of independence for themselves. So how much is too much? I'd probably say when autonomy begins to break down, as a general rule of thumb. Autonomy is key and smothering someone with compassion (or having a codependent relationship with them) won't achieve that. If anything, it will most likely and slowly fester and become toxic over time, fostering resentment. (edited)

can't speak for all men, so whatever I say is how I feel & my own opinion. I would love this in a woman. Only thing is, women generally show support by asking to speak or share my troubles(basically talk or perhaps vent) Which is counter productive to me, I feel more stressful if I talk ab it, I'd rather sit in silence, cool my head out & brainstorm solutions. The most attractive way to show support would be to simply show me that you believe in me, or just a hug or sit in silence w me. hope this makes sense.

Caring and supportive are good qualities if you ask me. But mothering can feel too much. Not into cold and distant women. I think good communication and boundaries help a relationship find that balance. In short, don't change who you are as this will cause problems down the road.

Yeah, absolutely. My first serious ex was extremely caring. At times she'd border on being overly clingy. But it felt good knowing if something breaks and I lose my cool, she'd be there to bring me back home. Of all my past relationships, she's the one that became a lasting and trustworthy friendship. But that's cause I could tell she didn't just care about me like that, it was kind of universal caring. She was and is just genuinely an amazing person.

What’s important is to find the one who’s preference that matches how you actually are - there is no point pretending to be caring or uncaring to attract a specific person if that means living a lie - that can only lead to heartbreak down the road. Find the one that likes you as you are, even if it means waiting.
