This is a deep question but...

Do you PERSONALLY think someone that doesn't have a job, is worthless? Or does their presence in your life matter more than them working?

It depends on the situation really.. Is the person trying to better themselves? Did they go through a tough time? Is it a mutual agreement? Personally I'm not against being with a women with no job if it's agreed or if they are in the process of bettering themselves.

If being jobless makes one worthless could you, in good conscious say that any disabled, retired, or otherwise currently unemployed family of yours is worthless? Would their death not be a loss only because if their employment status? Think deeper, why are people conditioned to feel apathy towards it? Why do the rich elite want you to hate family that isn't being exploited by them?

No one's worth should be judged on whether or not they're slaving away themselves doing the 7-3, 9-5, or whatever it may be. Didn't bother looking it up but I'm sure america is the only place where a 40 hour work week is ok

I've been on the receiving end of the judgement, so I know. I haven't had a job until recently, and being unemployed wasn't a choice, it was because of people's perception of Autism and ADHD. I just got off of my second day of my first job and I'm mentally and physically exhausted. Sure it's overwhelming and I have lots of improvement to make but I want to improve. People mistake being overwhelmed as being lazy. I'm not always lazy, I sometimes can't clean my room because I'm overwhelmed by big portions of things, so I have to do things bit by bit sometimes, though I do really good with things like computer programming, though even then I still sometimes get overwhelmed. Always hear people out, regardless of what your first or second impression of them is. They may be holding immense burdens and mental disabilities and you won't even know it, you'll just interpret it as being an asshole or douche or lazy person, and then hang them out to dry. Don't do that, give them a chance.

There could be a billion reasons to why the person doesn't have a job, and I wouldn't want to be prejudged upon that, so why should I? Important to have an open mindset about everything in life. Sometimes when you're too quick to judge you might just be missing out on an important detail, and you might ruin a great relationship before it even started.

Absolutely not. Our worth is defined by so much more than being "productive". It's only because of capitalist indoctrination that we tend to think in those terms.

If they're refusing to work out of laziness, then no excuse. If they want to work, but are short out of luck with finding a job suitable to them, that's understandable; sometimes you can put out many applications and STILL not hear back from the employer. If they're working on their mental health first, then I'm all for it. All just depends on their situation! (edited)

No one is inherently worthless, job or not. But your contributions to any part of community adds on to your alrdy inherent value. If your community is merely just you and abother person, a job isnt always necessary - but the bigger your community gets, the more you have to work to contribute to said community

Rather than having no job, I think the useless ones are those who don't want to take any part or responsibilities. If they live with other people, do they do the house chores too? If they don't work and rely on someone else for a living, do they find other beneficial activities to do or do they spend every day overconsuming and doing nothing? But if the jobless person aren't related like that to me, I'd still befriend them. Worth is inherent.

Some people are having problem to get job even when they are overqualified, not because they are lazy or worthless, it's because of principles & pride. It's a matter they can't compromise with majority of using nepotism nor seeing the underhanded way of others earning extra through kickbacks or bribes. Knew this firsthand, person will rather live simply & moderate living than taking such advantages.... Maybe, it's foolishness, impractical... Person is not define by job, rather, the presence in life is more important in the whole, there's a role of hierarchy that needs us for responsibility, as siblings, children, elders or parents. Being there for others are more supportive morally & emotionally.

Hmm...no, I don't think that person's worthless. There are lots of people who don't have jobs but have their own businesses, people who just help out at home, people who use their talents and gain profit from it, etc. How about students? Only a few are studying and has a job at the same time, so are those who are purely studying worthless? No, of course not. There are also those who are still trying to find their path and is struggling in doing so. Not to mention, life isn't a race. I guess you could only call a person worthless if they not only do nothing to improve themselves, but is also pulling others down to their level just to feel better.

I think defining a person's worth by their ability to perform is really damaging to people's image of others and themselves. In a perfect world, no person should be deemed worth more than another, but it doesn't usually work that way. As a counter point, I think work is something that should be used to help the person feel like an asset to their community and grow from. Not something you rate on a scale of worthy to worthless. That could only be if work was done for satisfaction, not survival. There's some interesting studies done on communities that behave this way that I'd recommend the read for.

A person's worth isn't based on their employment status. In general people are more than just the work they do and there are as many reasons why someone might not have a job as there are types of people in this world. It's all based on individual circumstances. But it never changes their worth as a person.

My personal opinion is it's about the two of you looking deeper than superficial things. It's what the person is like not what they have. I feel its judgemental to disregard someone just because they dont work. It does not mean they are a bad person or lazy.

NO. I don't think anyone's worth should be tied to if they have a job or not. It's sad that people can't get the basics without a job (generally speaking) when in the U.S, there should be more than enough money and resources to go around. I will add that it might be difficult for me to date someone with little ambition or that can't contribute at all financially, because I don't make that much either and combined income helps. But that doesn't mean that people without jobs are worthless, and I would still date my partner if she lost her job. It's worth noting I don't have a lot of debt or kids, so it's understandable why it would be a concern for some people. But worthless is harsh 😥

I never judge somebody by what they have, but rather their mindset. Why are you in your situation, how do you act within it and how do you work on what you stand for. A job is a tool that aids or stands in the way of that.

Jobs are irrelevant and a social construct now-a-days, too much value is placed on monetary achievement. If you work and find happiness in it awesome, I do, but often times people who are happily unemployed genuinely contribute to society through the things they do instead. An example would be how I work to keep the lights on, but my wife (we are open) contributes so much more to our houshold dynamic. She has all the freedom to do what she wants, we don't have gender roles, but I know she works way harder than I do supporting us emotionally. Money isn't important, even without a job she makes this house wealthy.

I feel like no one is truly worthless. On the job thing specifically there are some who can't handle a job. I knew someone who was plagued with a lot of mental issues and he would try to get and maintain a job but unfortunately just couldn't handle it. His internal demons were just too much for him to handle.

As long as both of you are trying to better one another and be there for one another, even at the worst of times. If one or the other isn't really trying then yes they are worthless it not worth the heartache until they make up their minds.
