this is a very sensitive post for me... I've known a man for 2.5 years now( long distance relationship), he introduced himself to me as a widower with 3 kids, he was so broken and so was i , we supported and loved each other and were in a very serious relationship full with UPS and DOWNS, i discovered that he had DID in the beginning of our relationship, it happened when he suddenly changed his tone on me in a video call and i told him that he reminded me of my father ( my father was abusive towards me) and he had a very severe breakdown and broke up with me too that day then messaged me the day after say that he remembers nothing from what happened... he got diagnosed with DID at that time, he used to switch personalities and ask me who I'm... and where he's etc... i was supportive towards him and he was the kindest person towards me, it was never a normal relationship it was so much more than this it was so strong and unbreakable we were together always through thick and thin i completed him and he completed me too, there were many differences between us that made our relationship controversial by my family but i convinced them and we were about to get engaged when i discovered that his wife was actually alive and her death was a creation of his mind... I can't tell you how devastated i was... he sweared that he didn't lie to me and he didn't know she was alive, the explanation was that he was living 2 lives, a life with me and the other "host" was living his life with her ( he always told me he feels he has 2 lives and doesn't know what's happening in the other life) i pushed him many many times to seek therapy, he did hypnosis it didn't help much now we still talk, he's seeking therapy to understand his system better and now there's communicate between the other host and him as well as other alters, him and his other host came to terms that me and him can still talk and even get married ( in my religion double marriage is allowed) but the other host just doesn't want his life with his wife to be troubled, me and my boyfriend have our life, and him and his wife have their life idk what's the right thing to do,I'm not able to move on from him and i don't even want it, i love him too much and he does too what way do you think can workout for us? please any opinion is appreciated... don't scroll this post I really need to hear your advice and suggestions

I think his tone switched because his wife popped back up or discovered the communication. Did you only have a long distance relationship? This story seems sus to me but I am also just going off limited information and my own bias. I'm sorry you are going thru such a difficult time. Well. In my honest opinion it's him who needs to recover 1st. In our religion even though it's allowed to have multiple marriages but consent of 1st wife is also necessary and the other most important thing is wether he's financially stable enough to provide for the both families. In case both the check points ticks I guess there's no bad in you pursuing to get married with him. But if this unchecks I severally think you need to move on in your life (edited)

I was in a long-distance relationship with a person for five years. Then, by chance, I know the truth about his life. I didn't like it. And he also said it was like there were two people living inside him. For over a year I hoped his "light" side will defeat his "dark" side... During this time, I almost recovered from the shock and began to believe that everything was getting better for us. And then I encountered his "dark" side again. And I realized that if I survived the consequences of this encounter, I'd had enough and would put a final end to this relationship.

My question is have you even spoken to his wife and his children? This is probably far more painful and devastating to them than it is really to you and him. This is quite traumatic and sad in reality. I would say you have to talk to her and respect her wishes before you respect his wishes because she came first and this is a very terrible situation for everybody involved. His children will probably feel very awkward about this whole situation especially when the truth comes out if they're not old enough to understand. Has he even shown you his medications and paperwork of this particular diagnosis? Have you gone to any of his appointments?

I personally would remove myself from the equation because i have my own mental health issues to heal, and dealing with someone else's is just not an option id choose. Only you know what's best for you, i know it seems like an impossible situation, but maybe Journaling and talking about it with a therapist can help you get more of a solid personal opinion on your situation.
