"Reality" TV like the real housewives of stupidville

Compatibility. People seem to have this idea in their heads that their perfect partner is out there somewhere, just waiting to cross their path. That if they find that person, the rest of their lives will be smooth sailing. But life just doesn't work like that. No two people are perfect for each other. Nobody just gets handed their happily ever after. Love is work. It's a full time job, and if you want to keep it you'll have to keep showing up and doing your best long after the credits would roll if your life was a movie. If you want to love and be loved in return, pick someone you can halfway tolerate and put in the effort. If you're lucky, and they do the same, maybe it'll even work out. I do have to admit that I'm guilty of this as well sometimes. I wish that things were easier, that I could meet the 'right' person and have it all just be alright in the end. But I feel like I've lived the reality enough to know better. All I can do is keep showing up. Keep putting in my best effort, keep trying to make the work fulfilling, keep trying to make the benefits package more rewarding, and pray that someday I cross paths with somebody who is as committed to the job as I am. I hope against hope that's not too much to ask for.
