Faking confidence

Question

Does anyone else pretend to be confident only to have others tell you you're arrogant or narcissistic? Idk how to fix that. That's not what I was going for. I'm trying to disguise my low self esteem because I feel inferior and I think they will think I'm pathetic/not like me. Then I end up not liked because they think I'm a narcissist. Is there an appropriate level to all this?

I don't believe it's 'fixable', There are many factor that would draw people to make those assumptions. Mainly people are projecting based on their own insecurities, but then there are those who are naturally confident and I would guess that when you are something naturally it becomes rather easy to spot someone or something that seems a tad out of place. Keep practicing at it and itah become.more natural to you

I think it's possible that you're over-compensating and hence seen as arrogant. It may help if you try to create a balance. You can hide your lack of confidence by not holding an opinion too strongly and instead objectively consider other's thoughts for ideas. It'd not only help you make meaningful contributions, people's perceptions of you would also be much better.

It might be a vibes thing. If it is, then that's hard to fix, but maybe it helps to be more relaxed. If you're confident, you don't have anything to prove to anyone. Relax, lower your shoulders, be cool, be nice, be friendly 😎 (and don't take any BS from anyone)

Don't pretend to be something you're not. Be vulnerable about it. Let them know what you're working with so they too can help support you.
