Goodness. This has a lot to do with mental health. If you have an insecure attachment style, every day without that external validation is painful. You feel invalid, unappreciated. It's not healthy though. I think that the goal is to not NEED someone else, but simply appreciate them enougb to want to keep 'em. This takes a lot of therapy for many people though.
