I think marriage is complicated. Far more so, that most anyone is willing to face or admit. Given it's challenges, not sure if it's overrated, if anything it may be underestimated.

No, I think making a dedication to someone like that, regardless of whether it last forever, is a beautiful gesture to make, and because of the way societies are structured, it can certainly make life easier in ways. What I do think is overrated is all the ritualistic rules and outdated ideas that people think you have to follow to make a wedding or a marriage work.

Marriage to me, feels like a level of achievement. The next level of a relationship. Whilst may not be necessary, having a marriage shows that yes are in love and we are not afraid to tell the world. Similar to being labelled as boyfriend / girlfriend. Marriage is the next step. Marriage is also a requirement as it “legally” recognises the relationship.

Not "overrated", no. Mankind has screwed it up. It is meant to be a union between a man and a woman with Christ as the center of it. I don't believe it works out at all anymore only because there aren't many people out there at all that follow how it is supposed to be. Plus, everyone cheats, lies, and gives up at the drop of a hat. People just want to drop the broken relationship they have, and get a new one instead of fixing the one they have. There are too many broken promises. People aren't loyal or selfless anymore. It's truly sad.

Generally, yes. I think that there's no real inherent point to it. I think that the exchanging of vows to another person is very sacred and significant, but marriage itself is not the only way to do that and is over romanticized.

I'd say the biggest reasons to do it are: -if one person makes a lot more money than the other, it makes your taxes cheaper -other person automatically gets your stuff if you die (like your family won't be able to just take all your stuff) -they'll be able to make medical decisions for you if you go unconscious -some people feel psychologically more "close" -for religious reasons -so people take your relationship more seriously (it's a lot easier to get time off work to take care of your sick husband vs your sick boyfriend) If those don't apply/appeal to you, there's really no reason.

Marriage isn't overrated but more so misunderstood.you don't get married for glorification and women have to earn the privilege to be considered wife material. You can be in an faithful relationship with someone without that commitment and still be happy in oppose to being married and miserable. If I'm going to marry someone, that person makes me very happy, she's very supportive , betters me as a man and challenges me to do better , and also and not entertaining anyone else. Not just because she wants to get married.
