A Personal Anecdote About Medication

When I was younger, I was apprehensive about taking medication to help with my depression and anxiety. Am I losing part of myself by pursuing help? Are these just "happy pills?" But learning more about how my medication works made all the difference. The natural chemical balance of my brain is out of whack, and my medication helps get the levels correct and allows me to be my best self. It took many years of working with my doctor to get here, to find the right dosage and fit for me, but it has made such a profound difference. I hope no one out there views the taking of prescribed medication as a curse, but rather as part of a healthy daily routine much like brushing teeth or showering. Your brain is everything you are, and if you need a little bit of help to get where you need to be, that's nothing to feel ashamed about. Meeting with a professional (which I am not, to be clear!) to discuss whether medication would be a good fit for you might be a step worth taking. Just wanted to share these thoughts! Best of luck to anyone else out there who is seeking to be the best version of themselves. 🙂

Absolutely, we take meds daily for all kinds of physical health issues, I take an antihistamine for my eczema and allergies, I wouldn't think any less of myself for needing to take that, it can be trial and error to find the right antidepressant etc but once I found the right one and the best dose I stopped having panic attacks and I'm a lot less angry in general, life is easier and less harsh now for sure. I have bpd so it kept my mood swings less extreme for sure
