Given the ripple effect of our actions across time and space, how can we ever be sure that we’re doing the ‘right’ thing?

JoJoooo!! 🌻 All his questions are coming up and he isn't even around to see them 🥲🤣 You can never be sure. All you can do is ensure you don't knowingly do anything you feel is wrong, in terms of your values and principles. Ensure you stay good hearted, kind, empathic and don't mean to harm another, no matter who they are, and what they may have done to you. (I'm not speaking of the bigger picture and criminals etc.. this is purely on a personal level, as the question suggests.)

Maybe we can’t ever be sure. But I think doing the ‘right’ thing has less to do with certainty… and more to do with intention. If we choose kindness when it costs us, honesty when it’s uncomfortable, patience when we’re tired — those things leave ripples too. We may not always get it perfect. But if we move from a place of care, a place of presence, a place that seeks to understand — then maybe that’s as close to ‘right’ as we can ever get.

There are more important things than getting the question right You only really understand some things after you make a mistake. Now that I know what I did wrong, maybe one day I'll get it right

Hm. Depends on if you want to be well known and liked. I don't think I'm a person destined for such things. I am too imperfect. The world holds people to their flaws so harshly now. If everyone knew, would your life become a public hell? What would you hold yourself to under immense pressure to conform? Judge it by that. (edited)

You can't, but also, much of the time life isn't in absolutes. There may not always be one "right" choice. You just have to make the best choice you can with the knowledge you have. (As someone who is still always struggling to make the right choice)

All of time and space is infinite and not bound by our observation or concept of self. From this, there are versions of the self that are pure good, others that are pure evil, and a complete spectrum of selves that are a mix of good and bad. The choices I make aren't going to affect my infinity as a whole, they are only going to only decide where "I" stand in that spectrum. That being said, I judge my actions as good/appropriate based on the reactions of those I interact with moment to moment, meaning good behavior from me for one person might not be good behavior for another. I'm not saying I am a people pleaser either, I try to be generally good and kind to people, but if I feel like someone is "evil" or has done me wrong, I have very few qualms about causing... distress... to the individual. I am peaceful by choice, it doesn't mean that I am not capable of great vi*lence.

Right and wrong doesn't exist, at least not on a universal streamline. "Right" and "wrong" are both subjective. A group of people may agree that killing a murderer is just stooping to their level, but another group of people will agree that murdering a person who has no concern for the lives already existing has no place to exist amongst the living. Neither are inherently "wrong" just as much as neither are "right." This is where the dilemma of morals comes in. We can agree that there are Universal laws that govern what is right and what is wrong across the board for humanity, but within those morals exist more outliers that extend beyond mere "black" or "white" principles. The only real right and wrong exist to each person on an individual level. What is right for me is definitely not going to feel right or be beneficial to many other walks of life. This can be related to the concept of trauma: two people coming out of the same traumatic experience are going to have wildly differing reactions. One may believe it wasn't traumatic at all, and the other may carry a wound subconsciously forever because of that experience. Right and wrong do not exist on a Universal scale, they exist as individual measurements to each person's limits, experience, and sense of purpose in this life.

Points to consider: Does your actions align with your values? Your sense of purpose/how meaningful is it to you? Will you grow from it? Will it have a great impact(positive) to you and others? Are you willing to adjust your course when needed? 🤔🤷‍♀️

The future is embedded in free will and the past is embedded in fate. This is how fate can exists simultaneously between existence and non-existence. There is also an inherent karma presented that exists if only if it exists inside our minds, serving us what it is we believe we deserve; changing our perception of events as we known it. As I’m sure others will state, a reliance on our principles is important, at least then we know we are carving a way for ourselves in the world and relying on a version of “right” with real and noticeable results. I personally believe in right and wrong only so much as in the fact that they are concepts which can be given meaning by us as we choose, interestingly enough as is the case with all things and language. This predetermination of the meaning we place is inside of both nature and nurture although I believe it to be more heavily reliant on external environments as I believe us all to possess great and amazing feats if given the ability to become the higher versions of ourselves that exist inside of each and every one of us within reason. This is not an opinion, but a fact. Being aware that these actions lead to consequences or better said “a cascade of new experiences”, we can begin to see that the decisions we make are not only to be chosen for a specific ideal outcome, but also as a form of our higher selves emerging and taking form as what some would coin “an emergence of our higher ego.” It is in this state we truly begin to pilot our own ship, no longer falling victim to impulsivities and echo chambers of “false belief” that others choose to place upon us. It is the emergence of a spirit that is ready to contend with harder challenges presented, with outcomes that we are all too very well exist even though they haven’t played out yet. For instance, a true test of patience is being “punished” after a good dead. A challenge to be relished as a direct result of our direct change to our immediate environment(Which I am open to debate about), showing progress. A wise man in such a situation expects such an outcome as a possibility and can find the entertainment in it as it definitely was always going to present itself. 😆It’s like Murphy’s law, what can happen will happen. We’ve just given whatever it may be a means of fruition. (edited)

It's all relative, imo. As we continue to evolve and grow, so will our understanding of ourselves, the world around us, and how to treat each other. There's a lot of darkness in the world, but we have also come a long way in many respects.

I think, the term "right" and "wrong" were only created by us - humans. To humans, "right" were the norms, accepted by everyone whereas "wrong" is the opposite. So if, the "action" that you did is not "right" based on human standards, is it considered "wrong"? As long as you are not hurting, killing or giving troubles to anyone, Just do what makes you happy. This assumes we can know what the outcome would have been if we chose something different. We only know the reality of where we’re at and the results of what actually happened. Thinking on all the coulda woulda shoulda’s is just wasted energy. It’s more advantageous to find peace with the hand you’ve been dealt or the outcome of a choice and decide how to move forward in a positive way. There is always some good that comes from a choice - even if that’s learning there was a better way, so I think in general most decisions can be looked at as the “right” thing.

Ngl but the truth is we can never really be sure we just make choices and hope we’re not breaking more than we’re building. Every action ripples out in ways we’ll never fully see and sometimes what feels right ends up hurting someone or what feels wrong saves them. It’s exhausting carrying the weight of not knowing if we did the right thing just guessing and hoping it doesn’t come back to haunt us and maybe that’s all life is doing your best while quietly fearing it wasn’t enough….
