I'm fairly optimistic. I think they'll have about the same luck as us finding partners in real life + online. However, due to how dependent Generation Alpha already is on technology and entertainment, they probably will have poor attention spans and unrealistic expectations, giving them considerable difficulty on dating apps.

Watched a video yesterday and they said that dating sites are actually making dating/relationships more difficult. It’s widening the pool, but people are getting more picky (probably for good reason) and they just stick with the person they find because they cross some things off on their checklist, even when they don’t really feel an attraction. In the past, people would date someone they knew from a friend or someone from their group. People tend to fall in love with someone they share an emotional situation with and that’s easier when they are in close proximity and interact with each other irl. A study was done where men were told to walk on this rickety bridge and to talk to a woman that was there afterwards. They were more likely to call the woman after walking on that bridge because they “mis attributed” the arousal as sexual attraction when they saw her afterward. It created an emotional situation, thus some sort of emotional bond. I guess the next generation will have to ask their dates to go skydiving or something. 😉 Also, we’re becoming more reclusive with overuse of technology and our ability to read faces, tones, and body language will probably become rusty. This creates more anxiety and makes the person less likely to interact with another human being.

It's rather the state of society than media and technology but I'm quite pessimistic. The biggest issue is that people have more interactions online rather than offline. People don't seem to build local communities that much anymore. The state where school/uni/work are the main places for socialization should be signalling us that we messed up as a society. The first problem is that everything becomes commercialized, not just dating industry. There're very few people running local hobby clubs on non-profit basis. People look how to squeeze money out of everything and don't care about the rest. Depends on your age and country, but you might remember that it wasn't like that before. People were organizing many things for their neighbourhood not looking for profit: clubs, workshops, etc. People back then had much stronger sense of community and belonging. The shift towards online interactions has created a paradoxical scenario where while we're more interconnected globally, we're paradoxically disconnected at a local level. The erosion of community-driven initiatives has led to a loss of organic social spaces where meaningful relationships can develop naturally. Additionally, the commercialization of nearly every aspect of life, including dating, has altered the dynamics of human interaction, often emphasizing transactional rather than genuine connections. This change has resulted in an environment where the pursuit of profit seems to outweigh the value of fostering authentic human bonds.
