I'm just going to state this, strictly as a neutral opinion: Criminals do not follow ANY laws, so you can place as many laws & policies as you'd like, but it will only affect the people that abide by them.

Gun ban. People who wants to own a gun must pass a series of psychological tests to assure that he/she is capable & responsible to own it. Guns must be licensed to one person only & it can't be repurchased nor transfered to another person. Plus it must be renewed annually. This is to account the owner to be truly responsible. (edited)

The rise in gun violence is a symptom of deeper issues, issues that seem to have been getting worse over time. I don't have the answer, however I will suggest that the greed of those in power and their negligent attitude toward the average citizen is a massive part of the problem.

Mental health checks and free mental healthcare. America doesn't have a gun problem, it has severe mental health problem. Along with very greedy corporations making the cost of living unbearable, leading to mental health issues.

Make it illegal for politicians to take money from lobbyists. That would solve not only a lot of gun violence but multiple other issues.

Increasing mental health awareness and free excellent mental health care that isn't only pushing drugs but also how to become healthy wholly. The violence that started the US doesn't just disappear, it finds itself repeating the cycle through the generations. That needs actual acknowledgement, and minds of the traumad but healing masses coming together for solutions based on experience empathy and collective healing.

Not my problem, I live it a country with basically no gun violence. From an outside perspective it looks like it's a youth behavior problem. You let them get raised by the streets and you end up with people who have no morals and some are even proud of that. People always talk about how it's deep rooted issue, gun control issue, etc. but in reality it all comes down to parents not raising their kids properly, and if your excuse is that you need 3 jobs to feed them and don't have the time, then why did you make kids in the first place? Be responsible.

Basic needs met. Affordable food, shelter, clean water and health care. I was just talking about how traumatizing it was when I was a teaching aid doing mass shooting drills with 3 year Olds.

Gun fanatics will cry if guns are prohibited. The NRA is major $$$supporter of political party/members that support the right. That should change . How many kids have to die in schools? How would 1 political member feel if it was his kid who died while at school university etc.??? It shameful!!! In Australia a man shoot killed over 30 people , there the government wasted no time to change gun laws stricter rules who can have guns! Less guns, Less crime, less deaths. People kids have right to go schools to learn , NOT to be killed there ! It needs to change!! oNLY law police military should have them. To protect people . (edited)

In 2023 the estimated homicide rate in the US was 5.5 per 100k people, actually less than the 6.3 of the previous year. It is going down measurably. However, there’s still plenty more that can be done. The UK’s homicide rate is 0.99 per 100k which is dramatically lower. The environment for this is primarily a result of guns being highly illegal for the average person, less stigma around mental health and more support for it, fewer cars and more face-to-face interaction. It wouldn’t be an easy transition for the US to make, but it is possible. People tout the Netherlands as the epitome of cycling culture, but that cycling culture was artificially enforced by the government in the 70s and 80s to great opposition from the general public. But it worked. The Netherlands is now one of the most pleasant places to cycle because the government knew what is best for the population and applied it with a firm hand. I would argue the same can be done for firearms in America. A short and rough transition period would ensue but afterward I believe everyone would be better off for it.

Decrease the number of guns in circulation. It worked for Japan, and it worked for Australia. Honestly, people are making this harder than it should be.

As a non-American, I'd say follow the strict regulations in some Eu countries. Can't remember which but there's a country that requires you to go through so many lectures and training. Also had a range where you shoot a target across a highway. An infraction has a big punishment. But what do I know--I am not from Europe either. 😌

How about making guns hard to acquire and instead of paying extreme amounts for gun shops pay for mental health services so that people don't feel like they should be shooting up schools to calm the dark thoughts in their heads

My criminology professor said making stricter laws statistically doesn’t make criminals stay away from crime. So banning fire weapons wouldn’t help either cuz those who are determined to hurt and kill will find a way, get an axe or other tool. I’m not familiar with how easy it is to own one in US but perhaps more background checks and psych tests. Being anti gun is cringe 🤣
