I measure emotional intelligence in others by their ability to enjoy an emotional moment and/or their reaction to it. Other intelligences don't matter much and I haven't spent much time contemplating or caring about them. If someone can find peace in a moment, tears in happy times a well as sad, if there is compassion in them, if they are aware. So really, only with time

I normally judge intelligence by a willingness to listen to things contrary to a person's perceived notions of fact.

INTJ

Usually, I measure intelligence by how well someone can reason - that they can distinguish facts from opinions and can order them in such a way to present a cohesive and coherent argument. I subtract points if they use non-sequiturs and ad hominem attacks. I add points if they are perceptive enough to take in a lot of information and distill it to its important points. I give bonus points if they have a sharp or dry wit. Particularly, if they employ it well. I know that means my criteria are biased towards NTs and NFs. Therefore, I am fully aware I am not measuring intelligence accurately. Furthermore, I know that I my measurements conflate analytical and communication skills with intelligence. Finally, I am aware that by using these criteria, I am measuring a very narrow view of intelligence. But, as someone who has lower than average emotional intelligence, I have trouble reading people's EQ. From where I sit, it often looks like magic. 🧙 But the question was how I measure intelligence, not how I think intelligence ought to be measured. So, hence my significantly flawed response. 🤷

Intelligent people can discuss a wide variety of topics, include abstract topics and ideas. They are good problem solvers. They do not seek sympathy for problems they can easily solve themselves (not including people looking for advice. I'm talking about people who ONLY want to complain.) They are not overly confident. They are open minded in a reflective, not reflexive way (iow open minded but not so much their brains fall out.) They are good critical thinkers. They enjoy learning new things and are intellectually curious. On a personal level, I've also noticed people who do not fit this description tend to underestimate me.

Measuring intelligence isn't necessarily something that can be done on surface value alone. You can watch someone do something that to you is dumb or redundant, but that interaction alone isn't enough to justify what kind of interpretation you'd get for a measurement. There are many forms of intelligence: be it mental, emotional, practical, or even common sense (which is anything but). Trying to analyze someone's actions on one factor or iteration alone isn't enough, so it's hard to really grasp the concept of what is considered intelligent at first glance. For me personally, I see if someone displays ignorance in my interactions with them. Not just once, but on multiple interactions and instances before I come to the conclusion. Now, being ignorant isn't as bad as people make it out to be, it just means you're not properly informed. There's always a chance to grow and learn when you're ignorant. But for the people who DO learn and do know better but continue to act as though they're ignorant, now THOSE are dumb people. And the type that I'll judge.
