Out of psych meds, as broken as ever

I'm starting to think medication is pretty much just placebo. Months and years of medication to end up with concentration and memory problems, no libido and weight gain. The intense depression, nightmares and suicidal ideation are still there. The suicidal hotlines are a joke, the NHS mental health service is slow, careless and out of touch with reality. Can't imagine what inpatient care must be, don't want to find out. Where do you go when you're so different from everyone else, when you're in such a deep state of loneliness that seeing someone smile makes you cry. Where do you go when you don't have enough in your life to keep you going. There is no support out there and whoever thinks otherwise clearly hasn't used the services available.

Not sure how much the Venlafaxine is helping but there's no good alternative right now. If you decide to change maybe try chatting with a psychologist or preferably a psychiatrist first. I found my Gp pretty clueless.

same. i got so bad i used to look at the wheels oh passing trucks with lust "yeah i bet that one would off me instantly if i were to just 'fall' in front of it while moving. went to get help and the psychologist and the psychiatrist both basically told me i need to pull myself out of the hole i find myself and find a circle of people to support me. well thanks bro, but thats like telling a car with no gas to drive itself to the nearest gas station. i found it amazing, finally got enough strength to yell for help and the answer i got was "help yourself"

I was on meds for bipolar 2 in and out of 3 psych wards for like a month or so honestly can't tell the meds only worked in the wards amd I had memory issues and would get confused as well. Then I just ended up with like a deep numbness and didn't do anything for a while and the side affects of a mood stabilizer made sleep so difficult and I would have tremors and uncontrollably shake. Cops did not help that for sure and I eventually stopped taking meds and am back to functioning at least. I'm glad meds work for some but it seems to me they are so wide and broad in use it's difficult to know what will help and if the diagnosis is accurate with that as well. People often have difficulty understanding and having compassion for those that aren't nuerotypical and can't empathically understand why people logically have suicidal idealtion either. It's quite tragic how they want to help people so much at the start and then end up on auto pilot or can at least. And it just becomes a job and get overloaded emotionally, especially nurses, forgetting sometimes to be human.

Daniela, I want to thank you for posting here. This topic is so close to my heart. I've dealt with depression, severe abandonment issues and lack of self worth personally for over 7 years and still I can probably only understand partly of how under you must be. There is this theory of the mean world syndrome. Start looking a the all the bad things in the world and the world will just look like a bad place. The truth is there is still sunshine, there is wind blowing in the right direction, puppies still filling hearts. People helping people. Its just as true. Please know that, Help is Always out there. It comes sometimes from the most unexpected people and sources. 1. Recognise that there is no one coming to help. No body is obligated to help us. Help is a blessing and we should learn to appreciate it rather demand it or be upset when it doesnt. 2. Invest your time and energy in working out. Get a physical activity to get to daily. Every single day. The kind of change this brings in a person is absolutely immaculate. 3. Find a spiritual practice. 4. Spend time in greatfulness. Maintain a journal, make a short video, anything to remind you of the 1 good thing that happened that day. 5. Make Meaningful connections. Your environment, the people you interact with play a major role in shaping your mental health. Loose those friends you know you have to. Better to cut ties than hold on to something thats hurting you. God helps, He will send the right people to your space. Search for a mentor. He/She will be accountability partner, helper, motivator, guide. Life will get better. This is what helped me.. 9 months later... Im in a much better place. Hope this helps you too. Praying for you. Cheers.

Have you tried connecting with music like learning an instrument. Like playing the piano or guitar. Maybe getting a coach to help you learn the instrument or a vocal coach? Something that you can do and try. Thats different from what youve previously done. That might spark that passion inside. Usually when I see people depressed, its because theyre missing something meaningful in their lives that gives them a sense of purpose or belonging. To find that thing that makes us feel most alive can be just what we need.

Meds are just like bike stabilisers, yes they can help but when they are gone it's all upto you, this life really does give us our different situations that make us who we are but learning not to give up and enjoy ur own company depending on no one and nothing can really change things, it's not easy but far from impossible, I hope u find ur way

Metta meditation helps me immensely and learning to be content with what is and to endure what is difficult. Someday it's just a cup of coffee, a nice cloud a new smell. I have to remember to breath deeply a lot and the weight is still there but I have felt relief before just from breathing so I strive to live a life that is bearable and be kind to who I can.
