I think the best coping mechanism is to spend time with family and friends. It will remind you that you are loved πŸ₯°.

Grieving is important because you lost someone. Cry it out, feel the pain. Do not numb yourself with drugs, smoking or drinking. Talk about it if you can. Have a moment of self-reflection. It's okay to feel angry. It's okay to feel your emotions. Be with the people who love you, and don't forget to love yourself first. Take cake of yourself. You will heal. πŸ’—

Too vague of a question. Do you need to cope if you break up with someone? If you cheated and got caught and dumped should you get to cope?

Unfriend and delete pictures together. Reminisce that there were good and bad times and you did your best. You loved, was loved, and was broken. Travelling also helps. And good food, of course :P

There really is no "good" coping mechanism- all people are doing right now in the world is coping. Coping isn't a method of healing, it's a distraction that prevents/prolongs healing. Breakups are going to hurt- it's impossible for them not to. But the refusal/avoidance of actually FEELING all the emotions involved is what's causing the pain. Another issue is isolation- pain needs to be accepted and witnessed by others in a safe environment, so don't grieve alone- have trusting friends/family around, or at least a good therapist to be present while you express your feelings. Focus on ways you can love yourself whether by exercise, or other self care. Also, invest more energy into nurturing close friend and family relationships and into activities that make you healthier and stronger. Prayer and meditation can help a lot too. Time heals all wounds. Use that time to make yourself stronger. (edited)

Just cry it out.... And then dig his/her grave and bury him/her. Like for real! Just think of him/her as someone who was there, who you loved dearly, but is now dead, and since he/she is dead, he/she ain't coming back, and you also don't want him/her back, because you don't want to spent the rest of your life with a ghost! Offer flowers, bow down, give respect, turn back and move on, let him/her rest in peace and watch you from heaven or hell or whatever, if they want to. ERASE HIM/HER, just like he/she did. If your close people ask, tell them you don't know who they are talking about, or that he/she is no more. It worked for me.

You have to treat a breakup as if they physically died. I feel like we don't draw those parallels enough. Breakups are a form of loss, and with loss comes grief. Allow yourself to feel however you want to feel. Then 'bury' them. Like people are saying here, you want to delete and block all their socials which could symbolise burying them. Depending on the circumstances in which the relationship ended, I feel that we all refer to our exes throughout life because at the end of the day, they did play a part in shaping who we are today. In other words, we can't truly forget them, but over time we become indifferent and can speak about them without having strong emotional reaction. An analogy is like a ball in a jar. Grief being the ball, the jar being life. At first, the ball takes up most of the jar. You'd think that the ball shrinks over time, but it's actually the jar (your life) that expands around it and the grief becomes just a bit more bearable. Remember that what you are feeling is temporary. This too shall pass. You've made it through 100% of your bad days and you can only go so far down until life changes directions and the only way is up! Stay strong❀️πŸ’ͺ

Focus on a simple routine. Wake up, make your bed, go to work, get home, go for a quick run, cook, relax an hour, go to bed. Reduce the time you can spend missing someone to a minimum with tasks... there's no easy way to get over a breakup.

Coping mechanism after a break up would be for me like taking some accountability for your actions. Taking time out for yourself and create new and healthy habits.

Self love. Remind yourself of who you are by doing this you love that you'd forgotten about whilst you were with someone else. It's important to eat well, drink well, sleep and indulge in self care like long baths, reading, walks alone and meeting new people or making new friends. Those language classes you always wanted to do but your partner wasn't interested? Do them! Remind yourself to live well and you'll cope well.

I "mourn" them. I mourn their loss as if they actually died, get over it rather quickly and then proceed to live normally. But yeah, thinking of them as if they're dead helps a lot πŸ˜‚

There is no mechanism to cope for a heaΕ•t ache. It heals if we learn to trust our capabilities to love someone else who truly deserves us. Bygones are bygones.

tldr affirmation from support network, and and when we are ready proving we can do even better. Regardless for me what really made a difference with my toxic breakup was getting affirmation from my support network that. I wasn't at fault in the breakup, and later on seeing i can be loved and desired again by different people for different reasons.
