The more we ignore the parts of ourselves we don't like, the harder they fight and the louder they scream.
Think of how effective it is to ignore a toddler - it isn't. Toddlers need lots of love, naps and snacks. So do the inner parts of our worlds that we think are "bad." What does "feeding" your shadow part "snacks" look like? It might look like: Listening to crime podcasts Watching horror movies Writing what you're really thinking Drawing what you're really feeling Putting on music and jumping around Taking naps when you "should" be productive Play therapy Giving yourself permission to stay in pajamas for the day "Shadow snacks" are NOT the same thing as catharsis. And shadow snacks aren't "trauma p0rn" - it's not about getting off on someone else's pain. This practice is NOT about huge releases of energy. It's about creating containment and safety so ALL parts of our inner worlds feel seen and heard. "Shadow snacks" are about listening to the needs and wants of EVERY part of your inner system with curiosity and compassion instead of shame and judgment. Everyone likes snacks. This includes our shadow parts. πΏπͺπ

Trauma is trauma because the thing that happened was something we did NOT get to choose.
If we COULD have chosen, we would have chosen NOT to be traumatized. Anywhere our choices are taken away, the likelihood of trauma is high. The reverse is also true. If trauma happens as a result of choice being taken, trauma healing happens as a result of choice being restored. ANYWHERE we can... read more

This is a reframing of the adage "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is insanity"
Theres no such thing as "insanity" - a brain that feels unsafe - for any reason - will create symptoms. Sometimes extreme symptoms. Sometimes baffling and mysterious symptoms. There's no question that our brains get injured. But injury does NOT equal insanity. [Disclaimer] This post is about... read more

That weird thing you see when you rub your eyes...
These shapes and colours are called phosphenes. Rubbing your eyes increases the pressure within the eyeball and this pressure activates the ganglion cells on the retina in the same way that light does. Your brain doesn't know the difference, so it interprets the activation as though you were... read more

Addiction is too complex a topic to be comprehensively covered in a library full of books - let alone a SM post.
